| Alumni Weekend 2005
Fellow Alumni Ruggers,
I am happy to be reporting another successful Alumni Weekend. With the weekend taking place a little earlier than usual and a couple of rugby weddings around the country, the turn out was not as large as in past couple of years. A great time was still had by all. Some highlights were the return on the two Dans. Both Dan Darragh and Danny Wadden made it to all of the festivities. Paul Wisse and Henry Graham took the third annual Blind Draw Pool Tournament. With a lot of experienced players returning on the present UNCG team and many or our usual players a no show, the Alumni had their hands full defending their 23 year winning streak on this the 25th Anniversary Alumni Game. Starting out with only 14 players on the alumni team and having to call on the father of a present team player, the present teams coach “Guido”, one of their players and John "Coach" Lamuraglia.
It looked like UNCG team might have their best shot of winning since their only victory the very first alumni game 25 years earlier. With the leadership of Lewis Johnstone and some newer alumni talent like Chip Burti, Phil Kempf and Ryan Todd we were able to pull through in a tough game. (Oh, and thanks to Tim Knox pressuring Pat "White Shoes" Wilson to make a late start) The after game party was as fun as ever and the cops that came to break it up about dark were overheard to say "Jesus, these guys are older than we are!"
We were able to match our previous year's enrollment in the UNCG Alumni Association. It is never too late to join. See the attached sheet to register for the alumni association the cost is $35. If you wish to help with the expenses of the UNCG Rugby Alumni then for each additional $25 I will send you this year’s commemorative alumni mug. (See attached picture) Lastly, as the year grows to a close and you might be looking to donate for tax purposes. Please don't forget about a tax deductible donation to the Frank Land Fund. THE BIG NEWS IS THAT THE DATES FOR THE 30TH UNCG RUGBY ALUMNI WEEKEND 2007 HAS BEEN SET!!
Our hopes are that everyone can plan now and make this great event. We are blasting back to the past and holding our alumni weekend the last weekend of October. (October, 25th -28th 2007) This weekend will be amazing and culminate with a costume party of days past. We all need to start planning our calendars and costumes. Let's make sure that those ruggers that have gone M.I.A. are found and brought to the 30th Anniversary. I am sure we all have our own list of people we have not seen in years. Let’s track these people down and make them come to this 30th Anniversary Weekend. Please send this email to everyone you know and ask them to email me to get on the rugby email list and check out the website.
